Overview
If not now, Then When?
Mary Jane Stein feels she is growing older by the minute. A recently divorced empty-nester, she decides that there is no time like the present to ride Ruby, her Harley Davidson Sportster, twelve-thousand kilometers across North America and back - by herself. There's just a small Mary Jane is over sixty years young, weighs one hundred pounds soaking wet, and has limited long distance riding experience.
Ruby's Dance is an inspiring account of one woman's two-month motorcycle journey from British Columbia to Nova Scotia and home again. As Ruby "dances" with her owner down the road, Mary Jane takes you over the jagged Rocky Mountains, to her roots in the Midwest, past traffic-tangled eastern cities and into the lush environment and artistic culture of the Maritimes. Describing herself as directionally challenged, she discovers that getting lost can lead you to amazing places.
Mary Jane faces numerous difficulties along the from limping hundreds of kilometers with Ruby's blown-out clutch to a confidence crushing wipe-out in a busy intersection; and just before crossing the border, losing all her credit cards and ID! But it's the gracious kindness of the people she meets which impact Mary Jane the most; their thoughtfulness, their love, their laughter, their hopes and dreams, their stories.
Ruby's One Woman's Motorcycle Journey Across North America describes more than a solo motorcycle trip; it is an intimate journey of self-discovery.
