Much as there has been a surge of interest in Chinese astrology of late, Indian (or Vedic) astrology is poised to be discovered by the masses. One of the most ancient forms of astrology, dating back more than 5,000 years, Indian Astrology divides the year into 27 individual signs of 13-14 days each (as opposed to the Western system of twelve month-long signs). The additional signs are created by taking into consideration the relationship of both the Moon and the Sun. Knowledge of one's Vedic sign (or "Nakshatra") -- made simple by Sutton, whose system requires only knowledge of one's birthdate -- and the various associations described in this book (planetary rulers, animal symbols, ayuvedic doshas) is considered to bring one an understanding of karma -- our spiritual path and the soul lessons of life.
